Welcome! Elizabeth Courtney-Seidler, PhD is the Founder of Cognitive Behavioral Therapies of Ridgefield, PLLC and is a licensed clinical psychologist in NY, CT and PsyPact states. Dr. Courtney-Seidler specializes in the practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
Dr. Courtney-Seidler received her B.S. from Fairfield University, her M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Hofstra University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and her post-doctoral fellowship at Cognitive Behavioral Consultants of Westchester & Manhattan.
Dr. Courtney-Seidler has extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy and has particular expertise in the treatment of depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, emotion dysregulation, ADHD, and disruptive behavior disorders. Dr. Courtney-Seidler also has significant experience in providing parent management training to parents of children with emotional and behavioral difficulties. In addition, Dr. Courtney-Seidler has extensive training in the parenting intervention SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) and its adaptation for failure to launch young adults.
Additionally, Dr. Courtney-Seidler has advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is an intensively trained DBT therapist. She worked for two years in the child outpatient psychiatry department at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine providing comprehensive DBT to youth with a range of psychiatric disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, mood, and personality disorders. She was also involved in the adaptation of DBT for youth learning how to cope with various medical disorders at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore.
Over the last several years, Dr. Courtney-Seidler was the Director of Outcomes Monitoring at Cognitive Behavioral Consultants of Westchester & Manhattan. In that position, she was involved in using practice based evidence to improve outcomes in psychotherapy and evaluating the implementation of CBT and DBT programs in schools and other agencies. Additionally, Dr. Courtney-Seidler served as a consultant to several local school districts, day treatment programs, and community mental health agencies on implementing both CBT and DBT.
In addition, Dr. Courtney-Seidler enjoys conducting research and teaching. She has numerous publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters in the areas of childhood maltreatment, adolescent depression, borderline personality disorder, and DBT. Dr. Courtney-Seidler has presented her research at national conferences and to local hospitals and agencies and is an active member of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
Lastly, Dr. Courtney-Seidler specializes in working with young adults and is the co-host of the podcast, College is Fine, Everything's Fine, which is a podcast interviewing college students about issues they face and coaching them on evidence-based tools to manage campus life more effectively.
